Dehradun IT Park waterlogging 2026: drainage and flood plan, offices
Dehradun has ordered a drainage survey and a flood plan for the IT Park on Sahastradhara Road after monsoon waterlogging. No cost or start date for works yet.

What happened
A flood report in July. On Saturday 18 July 2026, NIVV Consultancy Services presented a hydrologic survey report on the IT Park area at the Rishiparna hall in Dehradun, News Height and Janswar reported. Raipur MLA Umesh Sharma "Kau" and District Magistrate Dr Ashish Chauhan were present. The survey was done through the Irrigation Department, and the reports said an "integrated flood mitigation plan" had been prepared from it.
Why the area floods. According to the consultants, as reported by News Height, the IT Park sits in eastern Dehradun below a raised catchment of about 4.91 km, from which water runs fast off the hills. Rapid urbanisation and concrete construction mean the water does not soak into the ground. The existing underground drains cannot take the load, which makes the whole area highly flood-prone.
What the report proposed. News Height reported three main measures:
- a series of natural check dams within 1.2 km below the Sahastradhara helipad, to cut the speed and peak of the flow
- water conservation work in the upper catchment
- technical work on the banks of rivers and seasonal streams so water flows away smoothly
The DM was quoted as saying that heavy water on the roads during intense rain had caused traffic jams, damage to public property and disruption to business. He said protective work would start immediately once the detailed project report (DPR) was ready.
A second survey in August. On Saturday 22 August 2026 the DM held another meeting on waterlogging in the IT Park area on Sahastradhara Road, Unscripted Uttarakhand and News Height reported. He said pumping water out was not enough and that a scientific drainage system was needed. He told officials to finish a detailed technical survey by September 2026. It was to look at the area's geography, natural drainage routes, rainwater flow and the existing drains. SIIDCUL, the Public Works Department, the Irrigation Department and the research and planning division took part, with NIVV Consultancy joining online from Delhi. The consultants' recommendations are to be reviewed and then sent to the state government for approval.
What is not known. None of the reports we read gave a cost, a sanctioned budget or a date for construction to begin. We could not find any report after 22 August saying whether the September survey was finished or whether the DPR has been approved. The July reports call the area's catchment "4.91 km" without saying whether that is a length or an area. We will update this post when the plan is approved.
What it means for buyers and tenants in Dehradun
This section is our view.
The problem is known and officially admitted. The IT Park on Sahastradhara Road is one of Dehradun's main office hubs, with co-working centres and company offices. The district administration has now said on record that the area floods every monsoon. That is useful to know before you sign a lease or buy there.
A plan is not a fix. Check dams and new drains need a DPR, approval, money and at least one dry season to build. Until work is visibly done on the ground, assume the 2027 monsoon could look like 2026.
Visit in the rain, or ask someone who was there. If you are looking at an office or a flat near the IT Park, Sahastradhara crossing or the roads leading to them, ask the owner and the neighbours what happened during heavy rain this year. Look for water marks on walls, raised plinths and whether the basement or ground floor took in water. Ask whether the building has its own pump.
Put flooding in the lease. For commercial space, agree in writing who pays if water damages fit-outs, and whether rent is paused if the office cannot be used. Check whether your insurance covers flood. Our guide on renting versus buying commercial property in Dehradun covers other lease points.
Compare with other office areas. Jakhan, Rajpur Road and other parts of the city also have office space. Our post on office space for rent in Jakhan is one example, and you can browse commercial property for rent in Dehradun on ILA Infra.
Do not pay a premium on a promise. If a seller or broker says the flooding "has been solved", ask them to show the approved DPR or work on the ground. On what we have read, neither exists yet.
Questions people ask
Does the IT Park on Sahastradhara Road flood?
Yes. Dehradun's District Magistrate held meetings in July and August 2026 on waterlogging and flash floods in the IT Park area, and was quoted as saying heavy rain had caused traffic jams, damage and business disruption.
What is being done about it?
A consultant's hydrologic survey proposed check dams below the Sahastradhara helipad, catchment conservation and work on stream banks. In August the DM also ordered a detailed drainage survey, due in September 2026, with SIIDCUL, PWD and the Irrigation Department.
When will the drainage work be finished?
No date has been announced. The reports we read said work would start once the DPR is ready and approved, but gave no cost or timeline.
