Rispana–Bindal elevated road, Dehradun: where the project stands in October 2026

Rispana–Bindal elevated road, Dehradun: where the project stands in October 2026

What happened

The plan is for two four-lane elevated roads built along Dehradun's two main seasonal rivers, the Rispana and the Bindal. Together they run about 26 km. Garhwal Post reported the alignment in May 2025:

In that same report, Garhwal Post said land demarcation had started on 14 May 2025. It said about 2,614 houses across 26 neighbourhoods would be affected. It also said officials had written to the District Magistrate asking for land-use changes and property registrations to be halted in the affected areas. Daily Jagran (English) has put the cost at about ₹6,200 crore.

The project has faced opposition. On 21 November 2025 Daily Jagran reported that the Basti Bachao Andolan was collecting 100,000 signatures against it, with about 40,000 already gathered. The group was asking for the project to be cancelled and for ownership rights or rehabilitation for every affected family.

The most recent status we could confirm comes from Doon Horizon on 17 July 2026:

On 2 October 2026 News Nation reported that work was starting on plans for an elevated-and-tunnel link from Max Hospital to Dhoran. It would connect the two elevated roads and let Mussoorie-bound traffic avoid the busiest parts of the city. That is an early-stage plan.

What it means for buyers and tenants in Dehradun

This section is our view.

If you are buying anywhere near either river, check the alignment first. The Bindal route passes Malsi and Kishanpur, among other areas. Before you pay a token, ask the seller in writing whether the property falls within the project's marked area. Then confirm it yourself at the tehsil and with the Special Land Acquisition Officer's office. A property that is under acquisition, or might be, is a very different purchase. If you are looking at property in Kishanpur or property in Malsi, make this your first question.

Do not price in a road that has no final approval. Better access may come one day. For now the report is still waiting for NHAI's approval, a new study has to be done first, and there is organised opposition. No construction start date has been announced.

If you rent in a riverside area. Construction has not started. But if your building is in an area that has been demarcated, ask your landlord directly, and keep a written rent agreement. Our owner checklist for renting out a house or shop explains what a proper agreement should cover, from either side of the table.

No. As of Doon Horizon's July 2026 report, the project report was with NHAI, which had asked for a new hydrological study before giving final approval.

Which areas does the Bindal elevated road pass through?

According to Garhwal Post's May 2025 report, it runs from Kargi Chowk to Rajpur Road near Sai Mandir, through areas including Niranjanpur, Dehra Khas, Vijaypur, Malsi, Kishanpur and Dakpattiwala.
