Dehradun roads October 2026: Chanchak ring road, Haridwar highway flyovers
A foundation stone was laid in October 2026 for a 3 km ring road from Chanchak bridge to Mothrowala, as NHAI builds seven flyovers on the Dehradun-Haridwar highway.

What happened
A ring road for Clement Town. Amar Ujala reported on 12 October 2026 that Dharampur MLA Vinod Chamoli laid the foundation stone, during Navratri, for a ring road linking Chanchak bridge with Dakota, Laldhang and Mothrowala in the Clement Town area. The report said the road will be about 3 km long and 12 metres wide, and that around 50,000 people in the area are expected to benefit.
According to the report, residents had been asking for this road since 2007. The MLA said it would save time and fuel for people coming from Doiwala and Dudhli to Clement Town, and make travel easier from Clement Town to Mothrowala, Dudhli, Doiwala and Dakota. The report also said there are plans to connect it to the Haridwar bypass later, and that it should cut the delays people face at security checks in the Army cantonment area.
The report did not give the cost, the agency building the road or a completion date. We could not find a second report with those details. We will update this when they are published.
Seven flyovers on the Dehradun-Haridwar highway. Separately, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is building seven flyovers on the Dehradun-Haridwar national highway. Panchjanya and The India Daily reported on 7 and 8 July 2026 that the road safety project costs ₹319 crore and includes about 44 km of service lanes on both sides of the highway. ETV Bharat, Panchjanya and Ghatiki Goonj all reported a target of about two and a half years.
Where the flyovers go. ETV Bharat listed the locations as Jakhan bridge, Jeevangarh (two flyovers), Miyanwala, Chhidarwala and Raiwala (two flyovers). Ghatiki Goonj placed the Jakhan bridge flyover near the Dental College. Two foot overbridges are also planned. Ghatiki Goonj reported that their exact locations were still to be decided.
Why it is being built. Ghatiki Goonj reported that the highway was widened from two to four lanes in 2020, which raised speeds and accidents, and that an NHAI road safety audit found these works were needed. It also reported that construction had already started at several places, including Miyanwala and Chhidarwala. The India Daily said the service lanes are meant to keep local traffic apart from fast highway traffic.
Sources differ on the longest stretch. ETV Bharat, Panchjanya and The India Daily gave the elevated section from Miyanwala to Nakraunda as 2.25 km. Ghatiki Goonj gave it as 1.25 km. None of the reports we read named the contractor. We did not find an October 2026 progress report on the flyovers.
What it means for buyers and tenants in Dehradun
This section is our view.
A foundation stone is not a finished road. The Chanchak ring road has no published cost, agency or deadline yet. Do not pay extra for a plot in Mothrowala, Dakota or Chanchak just because a seller says the ring road is coming. Ask the seller, or the local ward office, for the actual alignment before you treat it as a reason to buy.
Check whether your plot is on the alignment. A 12-metre road needs land. If you are buying near Chanchak bridge or along the Mothrowala side, ask whether any part of the plot falls in the road's path, and whether the land records show any acquisition notice. Some of these areas also sit close to river land, so read our post on Uttarakhand's flood plain zoning rules before you commit.
Clement Town has its own civic question. Several of these localities are tied up in the cantonment merger debate, which affects who approves maps and collects tax. Our post on the Clement Town cantonment merger explains where that stands.
Highway shops: expect dust and diversions for about two years. Shops and homes along the Haridwar road at Jakhan bridge, Miyanwala, Jeevangarh, Chhidarwala and Raiwala will live with construction until the flyovers are done. A flyover can also take passing trade away from shops at its foot, while a service lane can make it easier for customers to stop. If you are renting a shop on this road, ask the owner about the plan for the frontage and agree a lock-in that fits the work schedule. Better roads help, but only once open. Over time, safer junctions and a shorter route from Doiwala to Clement Town should help homes in south and south-east Dehradun. Price that in only when the work is visibly on the ground.
