Uttarakhand PM Awas homes, October 2026: 12,856 units, new 31 October target
Amar Ujala reported on 11 October 2026 that 15 PM Awas Yojana projects in Uttarakhand, with 12,856 homes, are in final finishing work, with a new target of 31 October 2026.

What happened
15 projects, 12,856 homes. Amar Ujala reported on 11 October 2026 that 15 housing projects under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) are nearly ready in Uttarakhand. Together they hold 12,856 homes. The projects are being built under the watch of the Uttarakhand Housing and Urban Development Authority. The report said the structural work is complete, and finishing work and basic services such as water and power are still in progress.
A new deadline. Additional Housing Commissioner DP Singh told Amar Ujala that the last stage of work has a target of 31 October 2026. The paper reported that Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had directed that the work be finished on priority. Amar Ujala said the homes should be allotted to eligible poor families within one to two months.
Weekly checks. Housing Secretary Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar told the paper that officers are monitoring the projects every week. He said possession has already been given in some projects, naming Shikarpur in Roorkee, and that the rest will be handed over soon.
Where the homes are. The list printed by Amar Ujala is all in the plains of Udham Singh Nagar, Haridwar and Nainital districts. The largest are Bhawanipur-Jaspur (1,264 homes), Kanakpur-Kashipur (1,256), Ukrauli-Sitarganj (1,168), Anekihetampur-Haridwar (1,152) and Beldi-Roorkee (1,088). The smallest is Jhabbarpur-Roorkee (448). The 15 figures in the list add up to 12,856. No project in Dehradun district is on it.
The earlier deadline slipped. In August, the deadline was different. Doon Horizon and Uttra News reported on 20 and 21 August 2026 that 18 PMAY-Urban projects in the state held 15,496 homes, that 12,948 (about 84%) were built, and that 1,271 families had their keys. Those reports gave 30 September 2026 as the deadline for pending work and December 2026 for handing over all homes. The October report moves the finishing target to 31 October.
The numbers do not line up exactly. The August reports counted 18 projects and 15,496 homes. The October report counts 15 projects and 12,856 homes. None of the reports we read explained the difference. Pahad Today and Uttra News also said in August that the 528 homes in Ramnagar were complete, while Amar Ujala lists the Ummedpur-Ramnagar project among those still in final work. We could not find an update on Dehradun's Dhaulas scheme, which the August reports put at 180 of 240 homes built.
What it means for buyers and renters in Dehradun
This section is our view.
These homes are not for open sale. They are for eligible beneficiaries who applied under the scheme. If someone offers to sell you a PMAY home, or a "seat" in an allotment, walk away. Allotted homes come with conditions, and buying one informally can leave you with no title.
If you are an allottee, get dates in writing. Deadlines have already moved once. Ask the implementing agency for the possession date in writing, and check that water, power and sewer connections are working before you take the keys. Keep your allotment letter, payment receipts and ID papers together.
Dhaulas allottees should ask directly. The October report does not mention Dehradun. If you were allotted a home in the Dhaulas scheme, contact the agency for its current status. Our earlier post on PM Awas Yojana Urban in Uttarakhand has the background, and our post on MDDA housing schemes in 2026 covers the authority's other flats in the city.
Little effect on Dehradun's open market. Most of these homes are in Kashipur, Rudrapur, Sitarganj, Roorkee and Haridwar. They should not change rents or prices in Dehradun in the short run. If you are looking for a home in the city meanwhile, you can browse houses for rent in Dehradun on ILA Infra.
Questions people ask
When will the 12,856 PM Awas homes in Uttarakhand be handed over?

Are any of these 15 projects in Dehradun?
No. The list Amar Ujala printed covers projects in Udham Singh Nagar, Haridwar and Nainital districts. Dehradun's Dhaulas scheme is not on it.
Can I buy a home in a PM Awas Yojana project?
Not on the open market. These homes go to eligible beneficiaries through the scheme. Buying one informally from an allottee is risky and may leave you without clear title.
