Haridwar Kumbh 2027: dates, projects and what it means for Dehradun stays
The Haridwar Ardh Kumbh will run from January to April 2027 with 10 bathing dates. Here are the works under way and what they mean for hosts and owners nearby.

What happened
The dates are fixed. Mela Officer Sonika Singh announced the bathing festivals for the 2027 Ardh Kumbh in Haridwar on 14 April 2026, PTI reported via The Week. There are 10 major bathing days, three of them Amrit Snans:
- 14 January (Makar Sankranti)
- 6 February (Mauni Amavasya)
- 11 February (Basant Panchami)
- 20 February (Magh Purnima)
- 6 March (Mahashivratri), Amrit Snan
- 8 March (Phalguna Amavasya), Amrit Snan
- 7 April (Nav Samvatsar)
- 14 April (Mesh Sankranti), Amrit Snan
- 15 April
- 20 April (Chaitra Purnima)
Money sanctioned. On 9 April 2026, Swarajya reported that the state had sanctioned ₹1,200 crore, of which ₹282.29 crore was for 28 major Kumbh-related projects and the rest for the 2026-27 district plan. On 8 July 2026, Indian Masterminds reported a further approval of ₹43.87 crore for power infrastructure in Haridwar for the Kumbh, with ₹17.55 crore released first.
Ganga corridor works. On 22 July 2026, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated or laid foundation stones for four projects worth about ₹235 crore in Haridwar, Indian PSU reported:
- an administrative road corridor, ₹43.25 crore (inaugurated)
- Har Ki Pauri and Subhash Ghat redevelopment, ₹66.76 crore
- infrastructure north of Har Ki Pauri, ₹66.34 crore
- Rodi Belwala area redevelopment, ₹58.84 crore
The report said the works include wider bathing areas at Dhanush Ghat, pedestrian paths, boardwalks, crowd management systems, lighting, drainage and parking.
Bridges and a control room. News Arena reported on 30 June 2026 that a new Command and Control Centre (CCR-2), two bridges over the Sukhi river and a bridge over the Mayapur escape channel were among the works, and that the government's target was to finish development work by October 2026.
Rail. In January 2026, ETV Bharat reported that Haridwar railway station will be redeveloped at a cost of ₹460 crore, with yard renovation and holding areas for pilgrims. Motichur and Jwalapur stations are getting passenger facility upgrades, and proposals for special train stoppages have been sent, the report said.
What it means for hosts, owners and buyers in Dehradun
This section is our view.
Expect four months of heavy demand, with peaks. The busiest dates, especially the Amrit Snans on 6 and 8 March and 14 April, are likely to fill Haridwar and spill over into Rishikesh, Raiwala and Doiwala. Dehradun, with the airport at Jolly Grant, is a natural base for families who want a quieter stay.
Hosts: register and price for the season early. Homestays and guest houses on the Haridwar Road side of Dehradun and around Doiwala and Rishikesh are best placed. A registered homestay is easier to list and to defend if checked. Our post on Uttarakhand homestay rules for 2026 explains how. Travellers can browse stays near Dehradun and homestays in Dehradun.
Traffic will be the main cost. Expect crowding on the Haridwar and Rishikesh roads on bathing days. If you commute between Dehradun, Rishikesh and Haridwar, plan around the dates above.
Buyers: look past the event. Ghats, a station upgrade and new bridges stay after the Mela ends, and the Chief Minister said they will also serve the Kanwar Yatra. But a four-month spike in rents is not a reason to buy at a premium. Judge any plot or flat on access, title and year-round rental demand. The Delhi–Dehradun expressway matters more for Dehradun prices than one festival.
