The Majri Grant road
Asianet News Hindi reported on 11 October 2026, and Indian Masterminds on 13 October, that Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami approved ₹1.37 crore for a road of about two kilometres in Majri Grant. It will run from Laltappar to Gorkha Basti Sagar and other homes in the area. It was part of a wider set of approvals for roads, drinking water and other works across several districts.
Where the airport expansion stands
Most of the land is in hand. Garhwal Post reported on 3 May 2025 that the district administration had acquired 87 hectares for the expansion within three days. It said more than 85% of the land needed had been acquired. The report said 43 families and 93 farmers had been identified, and a committee of the Doiwala SDM and the sub-registrar was looking at claims for market-rate compensation and land-for-land demands.
A special magistrate to finish the job. The Daily Jagran reported on 7 January 2026 that the District Magistrate appointed Yogesh Mehra, SDM of Rishikesh, as special magistrate for the project. He is to handle the remaining acquisition, compensation and rehabilitation under the 2013 land acquisition law (RFCTLARR Act). The report said the earlier officer, the Doiwala SDM, had been slowed by protocol duties at the airport.
Why it is being expanded. Both reports said the aim is to let the airport handle larger aircraft and international flights. Wikipedia's page on the airport puts its traffic at 18.71 lakh passengers in April 2025 to March 2026, up 8.5% on the year before.
We did not find a published timeline for the new runway or terminal works.
What it means for Doiwala, Majri Grant and Jolly Grant
This section is our view.
Infrastructure is real, but so is the risk of illegal plotting. Roads and an airport push up demand around Doiwala, Bhaniyawala, Majri Grant and Jolly Grant. The same areas have seen MDDA demolish illegal colonies. Our post on Doiwala's illegal plotting and Majri Grant checks lists what to verify before you pay.
Check the airport's land and height limits. Land acquired for the airport is off the market. Near any airport, the height of buildings is limited by aviation rules, and a no-objection certificate may be needed. Ask the MDDA and the airport authority before you buy a plot to build several floors near the runway.
Noise is part of the price. Bigger aircraft and more flights mean more noise under the approach path. Visit at different times of day before you buy or rent close to the airport.
