Dehradun ISBT revamp and Harrawala station 2026: what changes nearby
MDDA says its ₹27.50 crore Dehradun ISBT upgrade is in its final phase, and Harrawala station reopened in July 2026 after Amrit Bharat redevelopment. Here is what we know.

What happened
The ISBT upgrade is in its last phase. On 21 and 22 September 2026, Asianet News Hindi, Doon Horizon and Akash Gyan Vatika reported that the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) is upgrading the Dehradun ISBT at a cost of ₹27.50 crore. The work covers about 10 acres. Akash Gyan Vatika reported that the project is in its final phase. None of the reports gave a completion date or a percentage of work done.
What is being built. The reports list new platform flooring, modern public toilets, waiting areas, dormitories, drinking water points, landscaping and energy-efficient electrical systems. Ramps and other facilities for elderly and disabled passengers are included. Booths for Ola and Uber, EV charging points and kiosks in a Himalayan style of wood and stone are also planned. The reports said the terminal is being planned for more than 2,000 buses a day.
The mall is going to tender. The ISBT complex includes a shopping mall. According to the reports, only films are being screened there at present, and the process to run the shopping mall and its shops is going through tender. We did not find how many shops are involved or what the terms will be.
Who is in charge. MDDA Vice-Chairman Banshidhar Tiwari described the project as part of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami's vision for a clean, safe and convenient bus terminal. MDDA Secretary Mohan Singh Barniya inspected the site and told officials to keep quality high, meet deadlines and keep passengers safe while work goes on.
Harrawala station reopened. On 17 July 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated 75 stations redeveloped under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. Harrawala, on the Dehradun–Haridwar line, was one of them. ETV Bharat and Amar Ujala reported that Governor Gurmit Singh and Chief Minister Dhami were present at the station. Amar Ujala said it is one of 11 stations being modernised in Uttarakhand.
Sources differ on the cost. ETV Bharat put the Harrawala cost at about ₹19 crore. Amar Ujala put it at about ₹30 crore. We could not find an official figure to settle this.
Few trains stop there yet. Amar Ujala reported that about 16 trains run from Dehradun daily, but only three stop at Harrawala, each for two minutes. It said the station sells 80 to 90 tickets a day, worth about ₹5,000. The new building has waiting rooms, reservation counters, parking and facilities for disabled passengers. Amar Ujala noted that more stoppages are possible as the area grows, but we found no announcement of new stoppages.
Dehradun station itself. We did not find any 2026 report giving a start date, cost or contract for redeveloping the main Dehradun station.
What it means for buyers and tenants in Dehradun
This section is our view.
The ISBT work is an upgrade, not a new hub. The bus terminal stays where it is, in the Patel Nagar area. Better toilets, waiting rooms and cab booths will make it easier to use. They are unlikely, on their own, to change rents or prices in Majra, Patel Nagar or Niranjanpur much. Be careful with a seller or broker who quotes a large premium "because the ISBT is being rebuilt".
Watch the mall tender if you run a shop. If MDDA tenders shops in the ISBT mall, they could suit food, travel and retail businesses that need bus passengers. Read the tender terms closely, including lease length, rent escalation and lock-in. Compare them with private shops nearby. Harrawala is a long-term story. A new station building with three short stoppages does not yet make Harrawala a commuter hub. If more trains start stopping there, homes and shops within easy reach of the station may become more useful. Until that happens, buy in Harrawala for the price, the plot and the road access, not for the station. Our note on where Dehradun's plots are explains the south-east belt.
Check the basics near any transport hub. Traffic, noise and parking can be worse near a busy terminal. Visit at peak hours before you sign.
