A 1 BHK house for rent in Dehradun among the trees: the Bisht Gaon cottage
Most 1 BHK rentals in Dehradun are a floor in somebody's house in a busy colony. This one is a standalone cottage in Bisht Gaon, with mango trees all around, a lawn, and its own front verand
The cottage
The furnished 1 BHK cottage in Bisht Gaon is a single-storey home with:
- a covered verandah under a red roof
- a lawn with flower beds, and forest on the other side of the fence
- a bright double bedroom with a bed, side table and curtains
- a living area with sofa chairs
- a kitchen with a granite platform, a tiled backsplash and a gas connection
- new floors and freshly painted walls
The rent is ₹20,000 a month.
Who it suits
- People who work from home. It is quiet, the view is green, and there are no neighbours on the other side of the wall.
- Couples who want a small home with a garden rather than a flat.
- Writers, artists and anyone on a long stay in the Doon valley who wants a quieter base than the city centre.
- Anyone moving to Dehradun who wants to spend a few months finding their feet before buying.
What to check before renting a house on the edge of the city
- Mobile signal and broadband. Test your network inside the house, and ask which internet providers already serve the area.
- Water. Find out whether it comes from a borewell or a supply line, and check the tank.
- Power cuts. Ask how often the power goes off in the monsoon and whether there is an inverter.
- The road in the rain. Visit after a shower if you can, and check that a cab or delivery can reach the gate.
- What stays. List the furniture and appliances in the agreement so the deposit is not argued over later.
- Pets and visitors. If you have either, agree the rules before you sign.
- A written, registered agreement with the rent, deposit, notice period and the yearly increase.
